The Tegenfeldt group's research is focused on developing and using analysis tools based on micro- and nanofluidics technologies that allow the use of ultrasmall amounts of sample and reagents. The ability to make controlled measurements at the particle and molecular scale yields unique opportunities to probe detailed sample characteristics with novel applications in particle sorting and DNA analysis as a result. Specific research topics include:
- micro- and nanofluidic devices for single-cell and single-molecule applications.
- label-free particle sorting schemes.
- ultrasimple fluidics for medical applications.
- nanofluidic devices for DNA analysis.
- polymer physics of confined DNA.
In addition to his research activities Jonas is responsible for the advanced-level course Experimental Biophysics.
Before joining the Division in 2003, Jonas worked at the Department of Physics at Princeton University where he pioneered electrodeless dielectrophoresis and nanofluidic devices for stretching DNA.
